“To achieve happiness it is necessary to realize that time is our most precious gift.”

Matthieu Ricard

O Sel Ling welcomes everyone, the possibility to experience its silence and its powerful energy is open to all. The incredible peace that permeates this place is like a balm on the visitor’s mind and produces an almost immediate feeling of well-being.

THE PILGRIMAGE TRAIL

The visit to O Sel Ling is not set up between walls but takes its shape slowly in the mountain, as the pilgrim follows the signs that take him on a tour of the various sacred objects:

The prayer wheel

A Prayer wheel is a cylindrical wheel mounted on a shaft, constructed of metal or wood and filled with thousands of mantras inside. Traditionally, the mantra OM MANI PADME HUM is written on the outer surface of the wheel.
According to the Tibetan Buddhist tradition based on texts, spinning the wheel has the same meritorious effect as reciting prayers or mantras.
The practitioner spins the wheel in a clockwise direction, the same direction in which the mantras are written.
Turning a prayer wheel creates extensive benefit for all beings because the wheel is the manifestation of the sacred speech of the Buddha of compassion. It is a sacred object that has tremendous power to eliminate the selfish mind that does not allow us to have spiritual realizations.
Lama Zopa Rinpoche says that placing a prayer wheel somewhere has the ability to transform a place, makes it «… peaceful, pleasant and conducive to the mind.» It is said that the simple act of touching a prayer wheel brings great purification to negative karma.

The Stupas

The stupa represents the enlightened mind or awakened consciousness of the Buddha. With their enormous pacifying effect, the purpose of these iconic constructions is to provide a positive state of mind for the people who approach them and for the environment where they are. The shape of the stupa symbolizes the elements of which our Universe is formed: earth, water, fire, air and consciousness. They are also mandalas: they manifest pure energy fields of different Buddha-like emanations and can be interpreted as geometric diagrams of the universe. The stupas are circled clockwise by making a complete circle, three or as many times as possible.

The Buddha of the Medicine

In Tibetan Buddhism, the Medicine Buddha, represents the healing aspect of Shakyamuni, the historical Buddha and the ideal of the Buddha nature to which each of us should aspire. It is this enlightenment that manages to free the human being from physical and mental suffering, and one way to achieve it is through meditation on the Medicine Buddha and the recitation of his mantra, so that enormous healing energy for one self and others can be generated. Meditating on the Medicine Buddha is a very powerful method to eliminate suffering and diseases of the soul: attachment, hatred and ignorance. Eliminates the disease and awakens the innate wisdom of healing.

The Green Tara Statue

The pilgrimage route culminates with the arrival at the highest point of O Sel Ling where the beautiful statue of Green Tara awaits us majestically.
Considered the goddess of universal compassion and mother of all Buddhas, it represents the virtuous and enlightened activity.
Her right hand is open, extended and turned outward on her right knee making the gesture of supreme generosity. The left hand is in the gesture of granting refuge, with the thumb touching the ring finger and holding between its fingers the stem of an utpala flower, a lotus flower, which extends over her left shoulder. This flower symbolizes purity and power. Her left leg is bent, her right leg is extended, ready to take action.
The statue of Tara can be circled clockwise as many times as desired.
